seasons

Seasons
Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall
Oh yes, I have named them all.
The Seasons, every one so different and bold, but
Winters, it’s very cold!
Spring is when the flower’s are all around, and
Summer‘s when everyone’s beach bound!
Fall is when the leaves hit the ground.
Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall
Oh yes, I have named them all.

What does peotry mean to me?

Poetry is a way of self expression that sounds better if it rhymes.  There are many different forms and types of poetry, such as songs, sonnets, or haiku's.  To me poetry usually flows very well, and is not very lenghty.

Sonnet

What to Write About
Ms. Watson told me to write a sonnet.
I though to myself; what should I write about?
Should I write about Laura Ingles bonnet?
Should I write about a great big-ole drought?
Should I write about things I hate, or like?
What about lions, tigers, bears, oh my?
Should I explain about riding my bike?
I might decide to tell about peach pie.
I could talk about a red 44 Chevy.
I could tell you about my little green zippo,
or taking my first love out to the levy.
Should I tell you about a big grey hippo?
Should I talk about a pick or a comb?
Well, I think this concludes my sonnet poem

LOVE!!

"The Parable of the Prodigal Son" was in my opinion, the best story we read, mainly because it was out of the book of Luke, in the Holy Bible. I go to church regularly, and find extreme enjoyment in reading The Bible.  I also favored the moral of the story.  In this story it explains that, the father loved his son greatly.  The son did not treat his father with love, or respect. After the son returned from doing his father dirty, he was sad because he felt  he had done his father wrong.  The father was surprisingly not anger, but joyful that his son had returned at all.  This is an example of unconditional love, which most parents have for their children.  "The Parable of the Prodigal Son" was a heart touching story the made me smile.  =]   =]

Revenge

What is revenge? The action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands. In "The Cask of Amontillado", by Edgar Allen Poe opens up by saying "The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could; but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge." (Roberts, p.519) Montressor uses deception to lure Fortunato in, and shows no remorse to being a killer.  During the story Fortunato was given clues prior to his death, but ignored them due to his intoxicated state of mind.

In the "Cask of Amontillado" Montressor seeks revenge against Fortunato by killing him.
When people seek revenge that also sometimes use decption to luer their victom in. In the "Cask of Amitillado" Montressor kicks his revenge off by getting Fortunado drunk because it would be easier to get him to the creepy vaults.  The irony of Montressor and Fortunado's horrific trip to the vaults is that Montressor said"we will go back; your health is precious" because Fortundao was coughing.  This is an example of reverse psychology, and is often used to trick the victim into thinking that the killer cares but really there is an alternative motive.

When the men were almost at the vaults they came to a wall that was covered in human skeletal remains.  Which in my opinion was a clue to the fact that something fishy was going on at this strange place, but they casually ignored the carcases and continued with their journey.

The most disturbing portion of this story was at the end when Fortunato was buried alive, screaming at the top of his lungs and Montressor sat back laughing, and felt no compassion nor remorse. Poe wrote about being buried alive multiple times through out his writing career, mainly because of his extreme fear of being buried alive.  Being buried while a person was still conscious would be one of the most horrific things to happen to anyone, because no matter what death is inevitable.

After reading this story I was slightly shocked, by the deception, clues, and lack of compassion.   "The Cask of Amontillado", by Edgar Allen Poe was an interestingly gruesome story that I would most likely not read again, due to the negativity, and goriness.

POE

I enjoy Edgar A. Poe, and loved learning about his life.  After reading "The Cask of Amittallido", I also read the biography in the book about Poe, which i found extremely interesting. If I had it to do over, I would have chosen Edgar A. Poe as my author to do my research paper on because he lived such and interesting life. After all that he endured as a child he still had this spectacular skill of writing.  I think it is very sad how people are addicted to drugs alcohol, and other substances.  I can only imagine how successful Poe would have been if he was not ruled by his addictions.  The ironic thing about Poe's high potential is that he did not utilize it to his advantage.  He let it go to waist in bars and slummy homes in the ghetto.

Shakesphere

When I first herd Ms. Watson say, the class would be reading Shakespeare, I was skeptic and perturbed!! After reading the Shakespearean version of the first act, I went immediately to Barnes and Noble and purchased the No Fear Shakespeare version of A Mid Summer Night's Dream.  When I reread the first act in the translated version, I enjoyed it greatly and was anxious to read the rest of the play.  The play was neat, and filled with all kinds of drama, which I thought made the play interesting.

I feel that the movie was what truly helped me comprehend, some of the scenes.  I thought the costumes and scenery were spectacular.

After reading the play in class I have planed to read more Shakespeare.

Elements

In Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, directed by Tim Burton, there were literary elements that stood out to me, even though I have only watched the movie.  Some of these elements are irony and personification.
Personification is when human characters are given to something that is not human.  In Sweeny Todd there are many examples of personification portrayed.  Mr. Todd often refers to his razors as his friends.  Even though a friend to a human would be a human, the razors are not.  Mrs. Todd at one point says “ at last now my arm is complete”  referring to when the razors were in his hand he felt complete.  In some friendships and/or relationships a person might say they feel complete with the other person in the relationship, as did Mr. Todd with his razors.  The meat pies made of human meat are yet another example of personification in the movie Sweeny Todd.  The meat pies are named after the people they are made of for example when Ms. Lovett says “It's priest. Have a little priest.” We all know the pie is not actually a priest, but the human like characteristic given to the pies make them personified.
Irony is another literary element expressed in Sweeny Todd.  Irony is when witty language is used to convey insults or scorn.  One example of irony that stood out tremendously was how Mr. Todd killed lots of people with his razors, and at the end of the movie he himself is killed by Toby with his own razor.  This was ironic because friends don’t kill friends.  Through out the movie Mr. Todd thinks his wife Lucy is dead, correct? Well at the end he kills around five people consecutively, with out knowing who they are. Directly before Mr. Todd kills Lucy she looks at him and says, “Do I know you?”   This is one hint that Tim Burton gives the audience, letting us know that Lucy was still alive.  When all is said and done Mr. Todd and Ms. Lovett go to the room to grind the people up and he realizes that one of the women he murdered is his wife Lucy.  This is ironic because the reason he started the killing spree was in revenge of his wife’s death, and his daughter Joanna being taken from him.
Sweeny Todd was an extremely violent and gory movie, but I felt it was education too, because I was able to relate literary elements to events in the movie.

Arsenic and Old Lace

Although I do not normally enjoy watching old movies that are in black and white, I did however, enjoy watching Arsenic and Old Lace, because it was not only comical but also ironic, and slightly mysterious.
One of the most ironic and comical elements of the movie would have to be that the two elderly women, Aunt Abby Brewster, and Aunt Martha Brewster were murders.  The women felt like they were doing their victims a favor by killing them, and “putting them out of their misery”.  In appearance you would never have expected the two women to look like murders.  I found it highly strange that the women had actual funerals for the people that they poisoned.
When Jonathan Brewster, and Dr. Einstein just appeared, and demanded they stay at the Brewster house was very strange and mysterious, because he was M.I.A. for so long and just expected everyone to welcome him, and his surgeon with open arms.
I am glad Mrs. Watson chose Arsenic and Old Lace specificly, opposed to any black and white movie.
